Elmer T. Corbin ^{1 2}

My cousin Elmer always had a fascination with automobiles and spent most of his life in or around them. He became a professional driver for many of the top generals in the Army. He got out of the Army at the end of World War II and his father helped him establish an automobile dealership and body shop. He was not a business man, his wife was a problem and he got rid of both and returned to the Army for the next several years. Somehow he ended up on Okinawa where he married a native girl. I had the opportunity to speak with him via Ham Radio when I was in the Pacific on Kwajalien. I also saw him in 1953 at Romney, West Virginia.

He was killed in a hit and run roadside accident in North Carolina when he was crossing the street between a restaurant and his motel. He was returning to Romney from his parents Winter home in Florida.

Due to his Army career, he was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at Washington D C. He is buried in Section 65 Grave # 4136. In Sept. of 1994 I visited his grave at Arlington. He was a Warrant Officer and served in World War II, Korea and Viet Nam.

Spent most of career in US Army and was a professional chauffeur for top brass.
