bullet  General Notes:

Josiah Daugherty and his older brother, Andrew, were in the flour milling business. They were proprietors of Model Mills, Ladoga, Indiana. Josiah paid another man to serve in the Union Army for him, an acceptable practice in those times. He also graduated from Hannover College in the 1860s. The Daugherty's Ladoga flour mill burned in 1893, and they moved to Bloomington to run a Stave Mill in nearby Spencer, Indiana. They eventually moved back to Ladoga to a house across from the Ladoga Normal School. Josiah and Rachel lived in Clarksville, Mississippi for some time. Matilda Daugherty (Linn) remembered visiting with them near the time of her fourth birthday in about 1908.
