 General Notes:
His 1850 US Census in Fayette County, Pennsylvania when he was only 16 years old and still living at home indicated that he was born in Pennsylvania. Otherwise, he reported Virginia as his birth location on all other census reports for the remainder of his life. Apparently his parents must haved lived in Virginia for a number of years and then moved to Pennsylvania by 1850.
Some researchers attempt to cite the "Bowman & Stentz books" which allegedly give his birth location as Monongalia, West Virginia (should actually be Virginia if true as West Virginia did not exist in 1834). I have searched through the "History of the Bowman Family" document and cannot find any reference to a birth location for Alfred Stentz, just a birth date. In fact, the book seldom gives any birth locations at all.
The FindAGrave page lists an obituary which allegedly indicates that he was born in Monongalia County, Virginia.
