The actual marriage certification signed by the Probate Judge for Ashland County, Ohio has a minor problem with the dates. It starts out by stating "that on the 19th day of January, A. D. 1862" and then ends with "subscribed before me this 19th day of January A. D. 1863. Notice that is shows both 1862 and 1863. So which one is correct?

Quite commonly when a new year begins, people tend to occasionally write the old year by mistake and that is what probably happened here. The year 1863 is most likely the correct year.
