"This account is in the family record. George Fast and Susannah Shough were born in Pennsylvania, and moved to Ohio when my Mother, Catherine Fast Fluke, was a babe. Grandmother Fast rode horseback part of the trip, carrying Mother in her arms. Indians were plentiful and the land covered with timber. We had a great-uncle, Christian Fast, who was stolen by the Indians but made his escape and reached home. The account is in the Ashland, Ohio History. My parents became quite well fixed in this world's goods. My Mother, Catherine, was given $3000 and a flock of sheep, also a pair of scissors so she could help provide their garments by carding wool, for a wedding present. Mother was married in a dark red silk dress. Samuel and Catherine Fluke moved from Ohio to Iowa about 1875, near Mount Pleasant."
