There is some confusion about the birth location for Asher. Many researchers are showing "Pennsylvania" but none cite any source record for the information in what appears to be another episode of Internet copying of erroneous information. With almost certainty it can be said that Asher Bowman was born in Ohio. This can best be explained as follows. His father, Joshua, was most likely born in Pennsylvania but his family moved to Ohio between 1804 and 1807. This is evidenced by the fact that Joshua's sister, Joannah, was born 1804 in Pennsylvania and another sister, Rachel, was born 1807 in Mahoning County, Ohio. Therefore, the young Joshua Bowman was in Ohio with his family sometime around 1807.
In 1810, Joshua Bowman married Mary Reed in Trumbull, Ohio and quickly moved to Mahoning County, Ohio to begin their family. Their first child was Lucinda who was born 1814 in Ellsworth, Mahoning County, Ohio. Another daughter named Rachel was born 1827 in Mahoning, Ohio. Asher Bowman was born 1819 in between those sisters and it seems very unlikely that the family would leave Mahoning County, Ohio to return to Pennsylvania to give birth to Asher and then return back to Mahoning, Ohio to give birth to the rest of their children. In addition, the 1820 census of Mahoning County, Ohio shows Asher there at age 1. (Brian L. Lightfoot)

Enumerated twice in the 1850 census. First in Jay County, Indiana in September and then about 2 weeks later in October at Mahoning County, Ohio which is about 270 miles distant.
