His 2nd wife, Rose, must have died before 1931 because his death certificate issued in 1931 indicated that he was widowed. It is not know exactly what year his wife died but it was probably before 1930 because the 1930 US Census shows Selby at the Pottenger Sanatorium in Monrovia, California where his job was listed as "Porter". This sanatorium was used for treatment of tuberculosis and it is not known if Selby was a patient there or not. Another reason that he traveled to California might have been because he had at least 2 of his children living there. By the end of the year, he must have returned to West Virginia where he died on Jan 5, 1931 in Preston County.
