In 1880 Thomas and Alice were operating a farm in Stately Township, Brown County, Minnesota. They had 20 acres of improved-tilled land with 140 acres of unimproved land. They harvested oats, corn and wheat having 2 horses and 1 milk cow. By 1900 they had sold the land and relocated to Cheney, Spokane County, Washington where he continued to farm. By 1920, both Thomas and Alice had retired and were living in Whitman County, Washington without their children.
