6
Mrs. Susanna Tuttle, 85, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. B. W. Hunt, 812 Willard Street, this morning. Death was due to the infirmities of age. Mrs. Tuttle had been remarkably active until about two months ago and had been confined to the house for the last month, only.

Funeral services will be held at the Hunt home with Rev. R. A. Morrison officiating. Interment will be made in Gracelawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Tuttle was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, on August 4, 1830. When she was fourteen years old her parents moved to West Unity, Ohio. It was one of Mrs. Tuttle's recollections she often recounted that she walked all of the way from Westmoreland County to West Unity, sometimes preceding the wagons which hauled the household goods, and some times following them.

It was at West Unity that she met Henry Tuttle, to whom she was married on July 3, 1848. Mr. and Mrs. Tuttle went to Stryker, Ohio, where they were pioneers, living in a tent until their log cabin was built. A daughter born to them was the first child born in Stryker. Twenty-two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Tuttle came to Elkhart. The next year Mr. Tuttle died on March 4 at the age of 74. After her husband's death, Mrs. Tuttle made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Lillian Boone of this city, until three years ago, when she was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hunt. In early life Mrs. Tuttle was a member of the Unitarian church.

Daughters surviving Mrs. Tuttle besides Mrs. Hunt, Mrs. Boone and Mrs. Lucinda Luscomb of this city, are Mrs. Malissa Sprague of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mrs. Elizabeth Bohner of Hudson, Ind. Three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Crisher and Mrs. Lydia Ridenour of Detroit, and Mrs. Mary Weyrick of Waldron, Ohio; and twenty grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren are living.

• Her obituary was published in the Elkhart Truth on 13 March 1916 in Elkhart, IN.

6 Mrs. Susanna Tuttle, 85, a pioneer of northwestern Ohio who came across the Alleghenies in a "prairie schooner" in the forties, died this morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. D. W. Hunt, 812 Willard Street, from the effects of old age. She had lived in Elkhart for twenty two years.

Mrs. Tuttle's maiden name was Susanna Lightfoot. She was born in Westmoreland county, Pa., August 4, 1830, and when fourteen years old, moved overland with her parents to West Unity, Ohio. A covered wagon carried the household effects of the family, while she, her parents and her elder sister, Margaret, trudged along on foot. Four years after settling in Ohio, she married Henry Tuttle. Twenty two years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Tuttle moved to Elkhart from Stryker, Ohio, but Mr. Tuttle died the following year. Since that time, Mrs. Tuttle had been living with her children.

Mrs. Tuttle is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Millsia Spregue of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Elizabeth Bohner of Hudson, Ind., and Mrs. Lucinda Luscomb, Mrs. D. W. Hunt and Mrs. Lillian Boone of Elkhart; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Crisher and Mrs. Lydia Ridnour, both of Detroit, and Mrs. Mary Wyrick of Waldron, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Hunt home with Rev. R. A. Morrison officiating. Interment will be made in Gracelawn Cemetery.
