Clarice was very gentle to my grandmother (Florence) but also died from heart failure. My grandmother was the only one to survive to adulthood. She had three children: Charles Hull who died in infancy of some kind of GI malformation; Charles Thurston Hull, born May 8, 1923 who was 19 years old when he was shot down over the oil fields of Pleosti, Romania on August 1, 1943. I have many letters he wrote my grandmother while he was in training to navigate the B-24 bomber plane. My mother said he survived initially but was so severely burned he lived on a few days. My grandmother was a gifted seamstress and very talented bridge player. She survived much loss in her life but never lost her faith.
