David G. Drugan, 86, of 1050 W. Wabasha St., Winona, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at Lake Winona Manor. David was born May 31, 1918, in Winona to David G. and Lena L. (Hanson) Drugan. He married Margaret Koch on April 22, 1946, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Winona.

He left Winona in 1941 with the National Guard to serve in the U.S. Army. He served in Europe with an anti-aircraft artillery battery as a platoon sergeant. David was a part of the D-Day invasion. He received five battle stars and the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. He was discharged on July 3, 1945, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.

David began working for the Winona County Highway Department as a bookkeeper for nine years. He became a city letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1979 after 24 years of service.

David was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church and American Legion Post No. 9, Winona.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; three daughters, Judi (Henry) Jozwick of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Joan (Allen) Staige of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and Julie (Rick) Bigaouette of Prior Lake, Minnesota; six grandsons, Jason and Aran Jozwick, Casey and Christopher Staige, and Nicholas and Jonathan Bigaouette; three great-granddaughters, Amanda, Brooklyn and Jayda Staige; two great-grandsons, Austin and Mason Jozwick; two brothers, John (LaVonne) Drugan of Warren, Michigan, and William (Jackie) Drugan of Greensboro, Georgia; and a sister, Martha (Robert) Westphal of Modesto, California.

David was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Bernice, Margaret and Ruth.

David was an honorable man with a great love of family and friends. His happiest moments were spent with his family, sitting on his porch admiring his flowers and the purple martens. He was an avid reader of history, especially World War II.

A Mass of Christian celebration for David will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, June 21, 2004, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Becker officiating. Entombment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Winona. Friends may call on from 10 AM until the time of services Monday at Saint Mary's Church.

Casket bearers will be his six grandsons.

Members of American Legion Post No. 9, Winona, will conduct military burial rites at the cemetery Monday after the church service.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the American Heart Association, the Kidney Foundation or to the Amyloidosis Foundation.

Services entrusted to Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.
