bullet  General Notes:

Little is known about Maud Kelly. Prior to her marriage to Robert Herman Lightfoot, she was boarding with and working as a servant in the household of his parents. She was listed with the family in the 1900 census in Texas County, Missouri.

She was married to Robert Herman Lightfoot shortly thereafter and must have moved to Craig County, Oklahoma immediately thereafter because her first son, Clifford Ellis Lightfoot, was born there in 1901.

The parents of Robert Herman also moved their entire family from Missouri to Oklahoma so Robert and Maud probably went with them at the same time. They are all found in the 1910 census in Craig County, Oklahoma.

No marriage document has yet been found for Robert and Maud so they might have been married in either Missouri or Oklahoma.

bullet  Marriage Notes:

Herman and Maude were married 3 Feb 1900 and came to the Indian Territories in 1901 in a covered wagon with a coop of chickens tied underneath their wagon and a milk cow tied behind the wagon. They established their home in the community of Kelso. To them were born six children: 2 died in infancy; Clifford Ellis, Don Oscar, Ruby Olive and Kenneth Orville survived. They had 71 years together, all but a few years were spent on their farm at Kelso. They did live a short time in Tulsa.

When Herman was 93, he was still riding the tractor and making garden. Maude was taking care of the house and her chickens. Herman was a farmer-stockman which was his first love. He was also very civic minded, serving on the school board at Kelso, very active in the Odd Fellows Lodge and attended the First Baptist Church regularly until an eye operation did not allow him to drive. He was a Craig county assessor. He held this office from 1917 to 1924. At that time officials were elected every 2 years. A charter member of the NE Electric corp, he was on the original Board of Trustees. He was officer manager of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration's Vinita office. He served on the election board for many years. He passed away at Vinita after a very short illness on Nov 1, 1972 at age 95.

NOTE - The marriage date of Feb 1900 may be in doubt. The 1900 census which was in June 1900 shows Robert Herman still living at home with his mother in Texas County, Missouri while his father had gone ahead to Oklahoma. Maud Kelly was in the household but was listed as a boarder and servant to the family.
