  General Notes:

Charles is not listed with his parents or the rest of his family in the 1870 US Census. He would have been about 17 years old so he probably was out working and living on his own.

Charles died in an industrial accident on 8 Dec 1888 of asphyxiation. This is a story on page 1 of the Morning Republican (Findlay, Ohio newspaper) regarding the accident. Charles William Lightfoot was employed at the Peerless Refinery at the time of his death. He was overcome by gas formed from the evaporated oils.

His place of burial is unknown. It is likely he is buried in one of the many unmarked single graves in Maple Grove Cemetery in Hancock County, Ohio.
