  General Notes:

Joseph's obituary was a little strange in that it mentioned only four surviving daughters even though he had at least six. Of those six, little is known about two of them (Minerva and Nora) so it is possible that those two may also have predeceased him. The obituary does states that he was predeceased by four children but does not provides names for them.

Joseph H. Whisler, 78, of 204 Walnut street, died at 2:30 AM today of a heart attack at his home. Mr. Whisler, a longtime resident of the community and retired watchman for the Huttig Manufacturing Co., was born March 1, 1885. He was a son of William and Susan Snyder Whisler. He married Eunice Wymer, April 5, 1910.

Surviving are his widow; a son Woodrow Whisler of Sheffield, Ill; four daughters, Mrs. Albert (Susie) Brenner of Muscatine, Mrs. Glenn (Eva) Hidlebaugh of Letts, Mrs. Arthur (Ida) Nicewanner of Letts, and Mrs. Kenneth (Juanita) Diehl of Muscatine; and two brothers, Albert and Abe Whisler, both of Muscatine.

There are 27 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four children, four brothers, four sisters and a grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. (DST) Saturday at the Ralph J. Wittich Funeral Home by the Rev. Ralph Fischer. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery. The body is at the funeral home where friends may call starting Friday afternoon.

The Muscatine County Public Library, Genealogy Department, has an alpha file index card which show the death of a "Eunice M. Whisler" who was born October 9, 1913 and died March 4, 1914; age 1 year, 4 months 4 days; convulsions, digestive disease history; buried March 6, 1914. I suspect that this was another daughter of Eunice and Joseph Whisler.
