  General Notes:

Wilma was born between one and three years before her father was married to Vietta Wymer depending upon which birth date for her is accurate. Knowing that he was previously married in 1884 to Nettie Norris, there is a question if Nettie Norris would have been the mother of Wilma instead of the family history assumed mother of Vietta Wymer.

Wilma's actual birth date is somewhat of a mystery. Some researchers shows her birth date as early as 1889, others as 1891. Some researchers show her mother as Mary J. Norris whereas other merely show it as "Ettie" which information was probably taken from the 1900 US Census after Daniel was remarried to Vietta E. Wymer and whose nickname was usually given as Etta. The 1900 US Census gave her birth date as Mar 1891.

No birth records for Wilma have yet been found. Her birth location is usually given at Atalissa in Muscatine County but that area was so geographically and culturally close to the Rochester area in Cedar County. In fact, one of the other infant daughters of Daniel Doty and Vietta Wymer was buried in Rochester Cemetery in 1893.

The March 1889 birth date may actually be that from a birth record for a female born in Muscatine County, Iowa on 15 Mar 1889 but the parents were Oliver Doty and Alameda Brigss, unrelated to Daniel Doty.

The birth year of 1889 seems to be best supported by her age as reported in the 1910, 1920, 1930, and 1940 US Censuses. Only the 1900 US Census supports the 1891 birth year.

Wilma married Andy Leroy Thorlton, son of Charles Marion Thorlton and Myrtle Bell Kerr, before 1920.¹ (Andy Leroy Thorlton was born on 6 September 1891 in Alliance, NE,^{8 9} died on 31 January 1933 ^{8 9} and was buried after 31 January 1933 in Drummond, OK ^{8 9}.)

  Marriage Notes:

The US Census of 1920 indicates that their marriage had to take place prior to 1920 because Wilma was enumerated as Wilma Thorlton and was living back home with her mother at the time. I'm still looking to find out where the husband was in 1920.
