bullet  General Notes:

Daniel Arnsberger's parents located in Williams County, Ohio from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania in 1840. There in Williams County, Daniel was reared to maturity. After his marriage in Williams County, Ohio, Daniel and wife moved to Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan. Daniel later settled in Fulton County, Ohio in 1869. He had twin brothers Christian and Michael.
----------------------------------------

Daniel's name was listed as one of the sons on his father's probate letter in Williams County, Ohio on 5 Jan 1880. His address is given as Ottokee, Fulton County, Ohio.
----------------------------------------

Daniel's year of birth is somewhat disputed. On the 1900 census, it is clearly marked as "Sep 1826". His death certificate provides "02 Sep 1825" but this information was provided by his grandson, Charles Arnsberger. However, the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 census all give his age which would indicate a year of birth of about 1829. The 1910 census gives his age which approximates the 1826 birth year.
---------------------------------------------

Arnsberger or Arnsbarger? Which is correct? Apparently both. Some of his siblings tended to use Arnsberger for most of their lives while Daniel seems to have a mixed use of the spellings. His marriage application has the spelling as Arnsberger. His early census records are of no help as the spelling was in several different forms probably because of his heavy accent causing the enumerator to write down the name as it was vocalized. His later census records and gravestone provide a spelling of Arnsbarger.

Abigail Arnsbarger..Wife..Jan 1829..71..NY..2/1
Sallie Arnsbarger..Adopt. Daughter..Mar 1888..12..OH..At School

NOTE - The handwriting describing Sallie's relationship is small and difficult to read but it appears to say "Adopted Daughter". Even her given name may be spelled as "Saelie" or "Sadlie". Note that a daughter named Sarah or Sally appeared on the 1870 census and she was not listed as adopted at that time but her birth year was about 1855 instead of the 1888 given on the 1900 Census. The fact that Abigail indicated that 1 of her children had died by this time indicates that it was the daughter, Sarah/Sally, who had died. Therefore, this "adopted daughter" on the 1900 census was most likely not the same person as her biological daughter, Sarah/Sally. Many indexes to this 1900 US Census will show their surname as "Arnsbarg" because the ending "er" is very faint and easily missed.
