General Notes:
SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Williams County, Ohio: Daniel brought his family to Wayne County about 1820, and there farmed in the forest, on shares, until 1844 or 1845, when he came to this township, bought eighty acres of partially improved land and farmed till his death, 6 Sep 1879, at the age of eighty-four, his wife following ten days later in her eighty-first year. Both were members of the Baptist Church, and he served for several years as Township Trustee. ----------------------------------------
Application for Letters of Administration filed in Probate Court, Williams County, Ohio on January 5, 1880 list the following children of Daniel Arnsberger: Jacob, Christian, Michael, William, David, Sarah, Rebecca, and Susannah.
Letters of Administration for the Probate of the estate of Daniel Arnsbarger filed in Williams County, Ohio on 5 Jan 1880.
There are several thing that caught my attention when looking over this document. First of all, at least for me, it shows proof positive that the Susannah Arnsberger who married Daniel Lightfoot was a daughter of Daniel Arnsberger and not Jacob Arnsberger. There apparently has been some confusion over this fact in that one or more researchers erroneously list her father as Jacob Arnsberger and this mistake gets copied over and over again by others.
The next thing that caught my attention was the fact that it states that Daniel Arnsberger died with "no widow". I believe that since his wife, Elizabeth Shade, died only 8 days after him, by the time the probate papers were filed and perfected by the court, it was considered that for purposes of his estate, he had "no widow".
Most of Daniel's children are listed here. Missing are the names of Anna, Mariah who previously died in 1860, and Elizabeth who previously died in 1868. Equally strange is the line that lists "John W. Shaffer's heirs, sons and daughters". I have no idea what significance this can be.
But the most mind boggling line is the one that lists "Harry and Lee Shaffer" as minor children of the deceased. He was 84 years old when he died; how could he father minor children? Administrator of the estate appears to be William Sheridan, Jr. ----------------------------------------

"This is interesting. In the 1866 letter he is answering a question of his parents ages. His father would be 72 on 12 Dec 1866 and his mother 69 on 17 Nov 1866. That would be Susannah's parents too which would make his father born in 1794 and mother in 1797. In one of my mother's records she shows Elizabeth Arnsberger mother of Susannah Lightfoot death date as 1 Oct 1874." --------------------------------------

At the base, the name ARNSBERGER is carved in relief. Two opposing sides are inscribed "Father and Mother, At Rest". NOTE - This record seems to show one extra female and at the same time is missing one female. Anna Arnsberger who is believed to have been born in 1821 would have been about 19 years old at the time of this census and should have appeared in the catagory "age 15 thru 19" but nobody was listed. Instead, there is one female listed in a much younger catagory of "under 5".
Unless I have Anna's birth year incorrect, this means that there might have been one other daughter born to Daniel and Elizabeth. There supposedly exists a baptism record for Anna in 1821 in Pensylvania so I have to assume that her birth date of 1821 is correct. It also means that for some reason the 19 year old Anna was either missed or was living elsewhere in 1840.
I'm leaning toward the opinion that there is one additional daughter, name unknown, probably born sometime between 1837 and 1840. If you look at the list of their known children, there seems to be a gap between 1836 and 1843. ---------------------------------------- .
