bullet  General Notes:

I give great thought to the possibility that this Elizabeth Shade was born to a previous wife of Sebastian Shade, namely Maria Ohmenseller, as many other researchers show that Maria borne a daughter named Elizabeth. It seems unlikely that following the death of Maria and Sebastian's remarriage to Elizabeth Chambers that he would name another daughter Elizabeth.

There is also the possibility that this Elizabeth Shade that married Daniel Arnsberger was from a different family other than Sebastian Shade because many researchers show a marriage between that Elizabeth and William Tipton in 1801. If this were true, then I do not know the correct name of Elizabeth's parents and the names of Sebastian Shade and all his ancestors and descendants do not belong in my family line.

Last name should probably be Schade, like her father, Sebastian Schade.

(Source: Message from Phyllis Storey-Harrison regarding letter written by Michael Arnsberger, of which Phyllis has the letter in her possession.)

"This is interesting. In the 1866 letter he is answering a question of his parents ages. His father would be 72 on 12 Dec 1866 and his mother 69 on 17 Nov 1866. That would be Susannah's parents too which would make his father born in 1794 and mother in 1797. In one of my mother's records she shows Elizabeth Arnsberger mother of Susannah Lightfoot death date as 1 October 1874."

NOTE - Elizabeth's gravestone is clearly engraved with the birth year of 1798. Even though this letter from her son, Michael, provides a birth year of 1797, I am going to stick with the year 1798 until other evidence shows otherwise.

Daniel and his wife, Elizabeth, share one common gravestone in Boynton Cemetery that is a column monument of gray marble approximately 12 inches square and 48 inches tall. At the base, the name ARNSBERGER is carved in relief. Two opposing sides are inscribed "Father and Mother, At Rest". Elizabeth's inscription appears on a third side that reads "Elizabeth Arnsberger, 1798 - 1879, 81y".

NOTE - This record seems to show one extra female and at the same time is missing one female. Anna Arnsberger who is believed to have been born in 1821 would have been about 19 years old at the time of this census and should have appeared in the catagory "age 15 thru 19" but nobody was listed. Instead, there is one female listed in a much younger catagory of "under 5".

Unless I have Anna's birth year incorrect, this means that there might have been one other daughter born to Daniel and Elizabeth. There supposedly exists a baptism record for Anna in 1821 in Pensylvania so I have to assume that her birth date of 1821 is correct. It also means that for some reason the 19 year old Anna was either missed or was living elsewhere in 1840.

I'm leaning toward the opinion that there is one additional daughter, name unknown, probably born sometime between 1837 and 1840. If you look at the list of their known children, there seems to be a gap between 1836 and 1843.

Sometime between 1843 and 1847, Daniel Arnsberger and Elizabeth Shade and all of their children except for Susannah moved from Wayne County, Ohio to Williams County, Ohio. The years of 1843 and 1847 are known because their youngest daughter, Rebecca, was born in Wayne County while the next youngest, Sarah, is believed to have been born in Williams County. One of the oldest daughters, Susannah, was married to Daniel Lightfoot and remained with him in Wayne County until 1854 when they also moved to Williams County, Ohio.
