William didn't stay long in Williams County, Ohio after his parents moved the entire family there about 1845 and they all appeared in the census of 1850 in Williams County. By about 1855 he had moved to Jefferson County, Wisconsin and married there shortly thereafter. He was the only family member to relocate to Wisconsin. Jefferson county is located in the southern part of the state and the small towns of Hebron and Palmyra where they were living were on the southern edge of the county only about 50 miles from the Illinois state line. ![]()

• They appeared on the 1860 US Census in Hebron, WI on 28 July 1860. 4 • They appeared on the 1870 US Census in Hebron, WI on 14 July 1870. 5 • They appeared on the 1875 Wisconsin State Census in Hebron, WI in June 1875. 6 • They appeared on the 1880 US Census in Palmyra, WI on 12 June 1880. 1 • They appeared on the 1885 Wisconsin State Census in Palmyra, WI in 20 June 1885. 7
The marriage location was probably in Wisconsin because Phebe is found in the 1850 census living with her parents in Hebron, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. And since William was found in the 1850 census back in Wayne County, Ohio, and their first child was born in 1856 in Wisconsin, it is safe to assume that the marriage was about 1855 in Wisconsin. |
