Henry Spencer was born in Muscatine, Muscatine County, Iowa, 12 Oct 1845. According to family, he was born on a house boat. His father, John Spencer, drowned when Henry was about five. His mother, Rebecca (Barcus) Spencer remarried and moved to Texas with her new husband. Henry and Kate were left with relatives. Supposedly she had intended to send for them but never did; circumstances unknown. He was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Wymer, 30 Nov 1871 in Cedar County, Iowa by a Minister of the Gospel. They farmed in the Rochester, Iowa area. To this union seven children were born. Henry died 8 Apr 1901, at the age of 55 years, 5 months and 27 days. He is buried in the Rochester Cemetery in Rochester.
