  General Notes:

Several researchers including the one that created the memorial page at Find-A-Grave.com and Cassius' own family members that created his gravestone have all indicated that Cassius was born on 21 Aug 1870 instead of the year 1869. This incorrect year of 1870 is easily disproven by looking at the 1870 census upon which Cassius appears with an age of one. More importantly, the date which the enumerator visited the Darner residence was 9 Aug 1870 which would have been 12 days before Cassius was even born if one were to believe the 1870 birth year. Therefore, the birth year of 1869 must be correct.

Somehow Cassius must have come to believe that he was born in 1870 because beginning with the 1920 Census and through the 1940 census, he reported his age which reflected a birth year of 1870 instead of the true 1869.
