   Another name for Sarah was "Sally" Stewart.

One source in the Netherlands as well as many other researchers show her surname as Savin. There are no source citations that evidence it.

Some researchers point to a marriage document between a Sarah Stewart and a William Howell Lightfoot in 1778 in Surrey County, Virginia but that would have occured after six of William's children were already born. And there are no other records to indicate that William ever traveled to Surrey County, Virginia. In addition, further research reveals those persons to be William Howell Lightfoot and Sarah Short Stewart, neither related to this family line at all.

Other researchers merely show the marriage between William Lightfoot and Sarah S. Stewart occurring in 1767 which conveniently covers the legitimacy of the births of all their children. No source citation for the marriage has been presented.

All of the Christening records for the children of William and Sarah merely show her name as Sarah, with no surname recorded. There is one exception which shows her name as Sally instead of Sarah, the Christening record for the son, Samuel.

Although Christening records from Virginia for the children can be found, there are no specific birth records.

Then there is the question about the death date for Sarah. Some researchers show it as about 1779, others about 1792.

There are two other possible thoughts about the death date. First, it could be possible that Sarah Stewart and Sarah Savin were the same person. Maybe she was previously married, but which one was her maiden name would still be a mystery.

Another thought could be that William's first wife was Sarah Stewart who died about 1779. William could have been remarried to Sarah Savin and the one or two additional children attributed to William that were born after 1779 might have been born to Sarah Savin.
