Frederick Clayton Miller, a farmer of Jefferson district, is the second son of Frederick and Lydia (Dorner) Miller, and was born 9 May 1854 on what is now the Emory Remsberg farm in the Jefferson district. His father occupied that farm at the time, as a renter.

During his youth, the family resided on different farms of this section, and he received his education in the public schools of Jefferson district. He was nearly seventeen years of age when his father bought the Lynch farm, Mahogany Heights, and removed there with his family.

When he was twenty-one, Frederick Clayton Miller left home, and for two years worked in the mountain flour mill in this district; after which he returned home and remained at the homestead until his marriage.

After his marriage, he and his wife remained there for two years, and then, in connection with his brother, Charles W., Mr. Miller bought the home farm, and cultivated it as partners for three years. Frederick C. Miller then sold his share to his brother and removed to his present residence, a farm which he bought from his father-in-law in 1902.

Frederick Clayton married 12 Oct 1880 to Miss Julia, daughter of the late Philip Sheffer; both are members of the Evangelical Lutheran church.

Mr. Miller was a staunch democrat; in 1905 he was a candidate for the Maryland house of delegates.

Charles William Miller and Frederick Clayton Miller married sisters Charlotte and Julia Sheffer.
