[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 7, Ed. 1, Tree #0736]

Harold loved the out of doors. At age 12 he and his father were driving new Auburns from the factory to Cleveland. That's how he earned money for college. 1928-30 he spent most of his time in the hospital with osteomylitis in his leg. When able, he started to work at C&F in Wooster as a clerk. He showed an aptitude for heating. In 1933 he joined Laurel Heating Company. In 1963 he bought the business and by the time he sold it in 1971 had made it a prosperous enterprise. After his retirement he and Opal bought an Airstream trailer and they enjoyed the nomad's life. For several years they spent the winter in Melbourne, Florida but in 1978 they decided to sell their home in Wooster, Ohio (they lived there for 50 years) and buy a home in Treasure Island, Florida so they could be near Phyllis and her family. Harold refused to take any medication, even an aspirin. He bragged he had never had a headache. He and Opal were always active members of the Methodist Church, especially the choirs. He was a charter member of the noon Lions Club in Wooster. Harold had wanted to be a brain surgeon but a nervous disorder prevented his dream from coming true. His last gift to his daughter was an orange and grapefruit he picked in the front yard of his home the morning a stroke took his life.

He and Opal are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn, Indiana on the Boren lot. Both were cremated.
