• His obituary was published in the Unknown newspaper in September 1899.

Ira J. Dye was born in Wayne county Ohio, February 14th, 1823. He lived in Ohio until he was 16 years of age then moved with his parents to Porter County, Indiana, where he resided until 1866, when he came to Carroll County, Missouri, which place has since been his home, and where he died Sept. 1st, 1899, being 76 years, 6 months, and 17 days old.

The deceased was married in Indiana in 1846 to Mary Ann Lightfoot who died March 7th, 1886. Six children, five sons and one daughter, were born to them, four of whom survive. In 1889, Mr. Dye again married, this time to Mrs. Catherine Kemmel, who died in 1892.

Mr. Dye was a firm believer in the teachings of the bible and for over forty years was a consistent member of the Church of Christ.

Funeral services was (sic) held at the Hurricane Baptist church house, conducted by R. G. Waters, in the presence of a large concourse of people after which he was interred in the burying grounds at that place.

NOTE - The oldest son, Levi, was married just before the census enumeration and was living nearby with his wife. The youngest daughter, Cora, supposedly was born in Indiana but with a birth year of 1870 that would be impossible because the family moved to Missouri in 1866. Since she is not listed on the 1870 census but is listed on the 1880 census, she was either missed on the 1870 census or was born shortly after the 1870 census.
