• His obituary was published in the Unknown newspaper in March 1936.

Death quietly claimed one of our oldest citizens Wednesday morning when I. S. Dye passed quietly away as he slept at his home in the south part of town. He had been critically ill for several weeks and no hope had been held for his recovery.

Ithamar S. Dye was born on March 14, 1854 in Potter [sic: Porter County], Indiana and was but 10 days less than 82 years of age. In childhood he came with his parents Mary Ann Lightfoot & Ira Jett Dye to Missouri in 1866. On July 2, 1881 he was married to Leah Malind Leffler, who had come with her parents to Missouri from Mercer County, Indiana. After their marriage they settled on a farm near Batesville, Mo. later moving to Holdrege, Nebraska, where they remained until 1895 when they returned to Missouri, locating on what is known as the Horton farm northeast of town. In 1902 they moved to Amsterdam where the deceased engaged in the livery business.

Six children were born to this couple, Mrs. Edith Carman of Eldorado Springs; Will Dye of LaCygne [Kansas]; Ethel Kyle of LaCygne [Kansas]; Mrs. Nell Finley of Amsterdam, and John N. Dye, of LaCygne, [Kansas] who with his loving and faithful wife survive him. One daughter, Mrs. Mary Etta Armentrout passed on in 1909.

Services will be held this afternoon at the home, conducted by the Rev. Clemmons and interment made at Mount Vernon cemetery.
