On Wednesday, October 12, 2011, Albion Cory Jackson Carr, 94, passed away in Los Osos, Calif.
He was born on Wednesday, March 28, 1917 in Gary, Ind, and was the son of Charles Elwood Carr and Bess Katherine (Cory) Carr.
Jack spent most of his life in Long Beach, Lakewood and Anaheim, Calif.
He served as a United States Marine and loved to share stories of the times he spent during World War II on Johnston Island.
After the War, Jack went to college and became and educator specializing in Special Education and taught at Del Amo Elementary School in Carson, Calif., for 38 years and continued volunteer teaching in Carson after he retired.
Albion married Anita Marie Skill on Saturday, July 15, 1950, in Long Beach, CA, and raised five children.
He and his wife, Anita, moved to Los Osos in 1992. Anita passed away soon after their move, shortly before what would have been their 42nd wedding anniversary.
Teaching was Jack's passion, so when he and Anita moved to Los Osos, Jack volunteered in the elementary schools and taught "Elementary Drafting," which had not been offered to children in this county before.
During his teaching career, Jack was the first in his school district to introduce the children to the sport of handball and was the driving force in developing the design and installation of handball courts in the Los Angeles City School District playgrounds.
Mr. Carr is survived by his children and their families; John, Steve (Diane), Tim (Nancy), Jacqueline (Scott Jeffreys) and Laura (Greg Chambers); grandchildren Rachel Abril (Aaron), Lindsay Carr, Adelina Carr, Christopher Handrock (Heather), Emma Carr, Klara Handrock, Emmylou Jeffreys, Dillon Carr, Madolyn Carr and Breanna Chambers; and great-grandchildren Sydney and Kyley Abril and Jackson Handrock.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Elwood Carr and Bess Katherine (Cory) Carr, wife, Anita Marie (Skill) Carr.
