Ellen Elise Lightfoot ^{3 4 5}

   Another name for Ellen was "Elsie" Lightfoot.^{1 2 6 7}

  General Notes:

Was her full name actually Elsie Ellen Lightfoot? This is purely speculation on my part but the 1850 US Census of Michigan City, La Porte County, Indiana shows an Ellen Lightfoot, age 20, with a birth location of Ohio. What is interesting about this is that she is living in a "hotel" and the hotel keepers are George Shrieve (spelled on the census as Shreeve) along with his wife, Orrilla, and their three children all of whom were born in Pennsylvania except for the youngest child. The possible connection is that Ellen's mother was Mary Schrieve. The surname has been spelled in many variations such as Shreve, Schreve, Schrieve, Shrieve, etc. It is believed that Mary Schrieve's father was Samuel Schrieve so perhaps this hotel-keeper George Shrieve might be closely related. Is it possible that Ellen was staying with Shrieve family relatives at the hotel? Or she could have just been in transit on the day of the census, 17 Aug 1850 and is not related to the hotel keepers?

Or was this the wrong Ellen Lightfoot in the 1850 US Census. There was an Abigail Ellen Lightfoot who married John J. Brady several months later on 6 Oct 1850 in Porter County, Indiana. There were several different Lightfoot families living in the area at the time.

NOTE - If her birth date was 6 May 1835, then her age should have been 15 instead of 20. I doubt if a 15 year old female would be living un-accompanied in a hotel so I doubt if this is the correct Ellen Lightfoot. Perhaps her birth date in not correct.
