From William Thornton: I have quite a history on the Carey's dating back to 1798 in Dublin where David Carey raised thoroughbred horses, one of which broke loose in the streets of Dublin and trampled him to death. His son John came to Jo Daviess County (Savannah, married Amelia Shannon of Pittsburgh, PA) and began the current line of Careys in that area.

Ken lived at 1316 No. Greenview, Rockford, Illinois in July 1966. This address comes from the back of a photo of his deceased wife, Helen, that he apparently sent out to relatives that gave her complete name, birth date, names of children, etc.

Kenneth John Carey, 94, died Monday, Nov. 25, 1996, at Court Yard Terrace in Rockford, IL.

He was born in Rockton, Il, on June 13, 1902, to Benjamin and Anna (Webber) Carey. He was married in 1921, to Helen Marie Fanning in Rockford, IL. He worked for General Motors as an Army-Navy inspector and as a machinist for Ingersol. He also worked at Manny Scargin Machine Shop in Rockford.

He is survived by his four children, Gene B. Cary of Rockford, Geraldine U. Webb of Rockton, Il, William S. Carey of Belvidere, Il, and James T. Carey of California; 21 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and special friends, Betty and Bill Kellener.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; two children, Ken, Jr., and a daughter, Betty J. Thornton; brother, Ben and sister, Eileen.

Funeral date is Friday, Nov. 29, 1996, at 2 p.m. at Bifulk Funeral Home in Rockton, Il. Burial will be in Rockton Cemetery and friends may call on Friday from 1 p.m. to time of service.
