bullet  General Notes:

1909: Deed recorded 5 Oct 1909, between Daniel Lightfoot and Duncan McClarren; Block 16, Twp 79, Range 3. Daniel was probably the seller as this transaction appears to be the reverse of the sale by his father in 1858 also between the same person, Duncan McLarren or McClarren. I'm surprised that the Lightfoots still owned land in Cedar County, Iowa long after they had moved to Kansas. Daniel's mother had died 5 years earlier in 1904 so Daniel was probably the heir apparent of any of the Lightfoot estate. His married brothers and sisters that had remained behind in Iowa all had land holding of their own. His parents had owned their farm in Sumner County, Kansas but I'm not yet sure of when that land was sold or if Daniel were living there after both of his parents has died. This land parcel in Iowa remained in the Lightfoot name for over 50 years and I'm curious as to who was farming the land during the 30 years after the parents had moved on to Kansas.

Don't know if the date is important to you but I found from an item in the Mulvane Record that Dan Lightfoot, Jr. went to Guthrie, Oklahoma to take a position there and his mother went to live with the Farnsworths in Arkansas City in Nov 1903 and he returned to Mulvane in May 1904. It didn't say what type of position it was but he returned to work at Shaw's Drug.

bullet  Death Notes:

Information from the Mulvane Funeral Home run by V. L. Gordon at the time and as listed on page 65 of their record book indicates that Daniel was buried September 6, 1920. The majority of records of the Mulvane Cemetery were destroyed by a fire in 1933 but this record shows that Daniel Lightfoot's internment was ordered by B. C. (Bert) Minnich, who ran a grocery store in Mulvane. Knowing that Daniel's occupation was listed in the census as "clerk", and that he apparently was the last Lightfoot around Mulvane, I believe that Daniel may have died while at work in B. C. Minnich's store, or perhaps he was a very close friend and that Minnich was the person who called for the doctor or arranged the funeral requirements. The record also indicates a total charge of $15 for hearse and services. Compared to other internment records of the time, Daniel's funeral was very simple and may indicate that he died without any other financial assets.

NOTE - Daniel, Jr.'s birth state was Iowa, not Virginia. Mistake is probably due to a transcription error in the records due to poor or illegible handwriting. The letters "Ia." for Iowa could have been mistaken for "Va." for Virginia.

The FamilySearch transcription shows his name as "D. J." whereas the Ancestry.com transcription shows his name as "D. Jun". I suspect the truth is that it should be "D. Jr.".

Find A Grave Memorial #33135637
Daniel's gravestone is a relatively small gray granite stone with a polished sloped front face approximately 18" wide and 12" high. It is located immediately adjacent to his parents, Daniel and Susannah. The inscription reads "Daniel Lightfoot, Jr., Mar. 16, 1858 - Sept. 5, 1920". The stone has sunk slightly into the ground obscuring the death date which falsely leads observers to believe that there is no date of death.

8 Louise Jaeger (This information came from Yvonne Linn who obtained it from her aunt. The original named source is Louise Jaeger of Burlington, Iowa, a descendent of Thomas Jefferson Lightfoot. She seems to have done extensive research on the Lightfoot family and has more information on the "original" Daniel Lightfoot's wife's family, the Algar/Kennedys. She mentioned in her letter to Yvonne's aunt that she had received much of her information from a cousin, Donna Trapnell in San Diego, California.).
