bullet  General Notes:

[Brøderbund WFT 701, Vol. 1, Ed. 1, Tree #1276 submitted by Dorothy Danner ]

Henry Josephus Darner was the son of John J. Darner and Elizabeth (Routzahn) Darner. He was born January 17, 1831 and baptized at the Reformed Church in Middletown, Maryland.

Henry Darner was a descendant of one of the old families of Middletown valley. He followed the occupation of a farmer. In politics, he was a republican and in religious belief he was a member of the Reformed Church. He and his wife were the parents of ten children.

Henry J. Darner was born in Middletown Valley, Frederick County, Maryland. He was a bright boy, was well care for and received a good education. He grew up on his father's farm, and learned milling. He received from his father $3,000. During the civil war, he began milling for himself and unfortunately invested in wheat at $3. The war closed, prices dropped suddenly, and he lost all. He still continued milling for others, but finally gave up the mill and turned his attention to farming.

After renting the Perry Rice farm for six years, Mr. Darner moved to the Joshua Rhoderick farm near Jefferson, Maryland, and three years later, settled on the farm now owned by his son, James C.

Henry J. Darner was married to Mary, daughter of Benjamin Edmunds, who died when Mary was an infant.

Henry J. Darner died at his home in Burkittsville district in 1884, aged 57. His widow died at the homestead in 1900.
