bullet  Marriage Notes:

Following the 1864 marriage of Eli Lightfoot and Evaline Stover in La Porte County, Indiana, they followed Eli's parents, Isaac Lightfoot and Lydia Jones, to Carroll County, Missouri and were there for the 1870 Census. Sometime between 1871-1874, Eli's sister Phebe Lightfoot, who had married Evaline's brother, Henry Stover, moved to Douglas County, Kansas where they remained for the rest of their lives. Probably moving with Phoebe and Henry Stover at the same time were Eli and Evaline where Eli's first born son, Edgar Vance Lightfoot, was born in 1873 but I am not yet sure if they were also living in Douglas County with Henry and Phoebe Stover. Edgar would be their only child to be born in Kansas.

Some sources provide for the names of three younger daughters born to Eli during the 1860s but their names never appear on any of the 1870 census records so if all three young daughters died in Kansas, that could have been the good reason for Eli and his family to then move back to Carroll County, Missouri to re-join his parents and Eli's younger brothers back in Carrol County where Eli's second son, James was born in 1878. They were enumerated for the 1880 census in Carroll County.

Sometime after 1888, Eli and his entire family moved to Jasper County, Missouri where both Eli and Evaline lived out their lives.

Comrade and Mrs. E. A. Lightfoot Guests at Dinner of G. A. R. and W. R. C. Here Yesterday. Wed During the War

The 63rd wedding anniversary of Comrade and Mrs. E. A. Lightfoot of Carterville were celebrated by the Webb City G.A.R. and W.R.C. at a November birthday dinner yesterday at the home of Mrs. Amanda Newton in this city.

E. A. Lightfoot and Evaline Stover were married Nov. 23rd, 1861 sixty-three years ago today at La Porte, Indiana by Rev. J. R. Ash, a Baptist minister. They have three children and 14 grandchildren.

The birthday of one of the Corps members, Mrs. Mattie Schurman, fell on the same date and was celebrated. Two large cakes bearing the words "Thanksgiving" were on the table. A Thanksgiving prayer was given and all enjoyed the good old fashioned fellowship.

Present were G.A.R. Comrades Lightfoot, Carpenter, Dodge, Lane, Stephens, Baggett, Bowdish, Mesdames Carpenter, Spielman, Barnes, Newton, Childs, Coplan, Toutz, Wilmoth, Stokes, Tappana, Covert, Gregory, Holmes, Martin, Fahrman, Walker, Schurman, Nolan, Hulsey, Julian, Davenport, Parks, White, Horton, Haney, and Holmes, and Miss Doroty Haney.

Their 67th Wed Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Lightfoot of 228 East Main Street, Carterville, entertained neighbors and friends yesterday in celebration of their 69th wedding anniversary. Mr. Lightfoot is 92 years old and Mrs. Lightfoot is 89. Both are enjoying good health at their ripe old age.

Those present were Mrs. Ethel Soursby and Miss Alice Lightfoot, C. E. Ault, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walker, Mrs. Mary Spielman, Mrs. Catherine Golder, Mrs. Mary Elam of Ottumwa, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Wheeler, Mrs. Oaie Haney, Mrs. Ellen Martin, Alice Coyle, Ella Sanders, Mary Davis, Ella Childs, and Mrs. Clovis Childs.

[NOTE - I am unable to determine just who is "Miss Alice Lightfoot". I suspect that she may be a daughter of Edward Vance Lightfoot, but I have no marriage information about him yet. The wording and punctuation of the newspaper article gives the impression that Alice was with Mrs. Ethel Soursby. Edward Vance Lightfoot died in 1910 at the age of 36 so it may be possible that Ethel was his wife who remarried. Eli's other son, Clarence died in 1905 at the age of 25 and there is no indication that he was ever married.]
----------------------------------------

A birth record for a then un-named son born on 2 Dec 1884 clearly shows that he was the seventh child born to Eva but my list of children currently place him as the eighth child. The child would be John Henry Lightfoot. And this means one of the older children must be incorrect or a duplicate. Of the oldest three daughters, Myrtle, Alice, and Jennie, there is no real definitive proof of their birth so at least one of these names is not correct. Perhaps one of the names is a middle name or a nickname for one of the other children. More research is needed.

The 1900 Census shows this son as "John H. Lightfoot" and provides a birth date of Dec 1885 instead of the expected Dec 1884 which is the date given on the Missouri State Birth Record. That birth record does not provide a specific name as he was yet un-named by Eli and Eva.
